Unlock the Genius in Your Child Weather Hi everyone! Today, I’m going to show you how to teach your two to five-year-old about the weather. It can be tricky to teach science to little ones, but with these activities, you’ll be able to teach your child in a fun and interesting way. When teaching a two-year-old, it’s important to keep things simple. Use pictures or objects to help explain concepts. For a three-year-old, you can use more complex ideas like weather patterns. A four-year-old can learn about the different types of weather and what they mean. Finally, a five-year-old can understand more in-depth topics like the different layers of the atmosphere. Now let’s get into the activities! Activity 1: Make a Weather Chart Parent Prompt: Let’s make a chart to track the weather! Instructions: Gather some construction paper and markers. Help your child draw a simple chart with four columns. Label the columns “Day”, “Weather”, “Temperature” and “Wind”. Have your child fill in the chart each day with what the weather is like. This can be done by looking outside or by checking the local news. Successful Learning: Your child will understand the concept of tracking the weather and how it can change from day to day. Activity 2: Raindrop Art Parent Prompt: Let’s make a raindrop art project! Instructions: Gather some paper, paint, and a few other art supplies. Help your child draw a picture of raindrops falling from the sky. Have them use different colors to make the raindrops look more realistic. Successful Learning: Your child will learn about the different types of precipitation and how they look. Activity 3: Make a Cloud Parent Prompt: Let’s make a cloud! Instructions: Gather some cotton balls, a paper plate, and some glue. Help your child glue the cotton balls onto the paper plate to make a cloud shape. Once the cloud is finished, you can use a marker to draw raindrops coming from the cloud. Successful Learning: Your child will learn about the different types of clouds and how they form. Activity 4: Make a Windsock Parent Prompt: Let’s make a windsock! Instructions: Gather some cardstock paper, scissors, and some string. Help your child cut out two rectangles from the cardstock paper. Have them draw a line down the middle of the rectangles. Then, have them cut along the line. Have your child connect the two rectangles together with the string. Finally, have them hang the windsock outside and see which direction the wind is blowing. Successful Learning: Your child will understand how wind is created and how it can move in different directions. Activity 5:  Make a Thermometer Parent Prompt: Let’s make a thermometer!  Instructions:  Help your child create a thermometer shape by gluing the popsicle sticks together. Then, have your child draw a line on the thermometer with the marker. Draw a cross line. High for hot and lower for cold. Color code the lines. Your are simulating a thermometer Have them fill the cup with hot and cold water and then place it on the thermometer. This will help them understand the different temperatures. Successful Learning: Your child will understand the concept of temperature and how it can vary from hot to cold. These activities are a great way to teach your two to five-year-old about the weather. With these fun and engaging activities, your child will be able to learn and explore the world of science. Thanks for watching! Thanks for watching!
